Pythagoras, father of philosophy, herald of the perfection of number, proportion, and harmony: for a thousand years he was lauded as the very foundation of civilization’s wisdom. As we explore, not so much who he really was, as who he was believed to be, we find the tone underlying our culture and our way of mind.
