Plato’s Phædrus

December 4, 2019

What is the nature of the soul? In the Phædrus, Plato leads us in an inquiry on this most vital subject, veering into issues of love, desire, the procession of the Gods, and the function of persuasive speech. This dialogue contains several formulations that go on to influence the development of the Western mystery tradition in fundamental ways.

Recommended reading: The whole dialogue is well-worth study, but for those who don't have the time or the inclination, we'll be focusing on Socrates' second speech (244a-257b), so try to review at least that.
